Annual Board Meeting

December 11, 2013

Meeting Minutes

  • Meeting called to order at 6:07 pm by President Keith Bohn (KB)
  • Thanks to all in attendance.  Crowd was very sparse. (KB)
  • Pleased there were no major on or off the field issues the past Fall season. (KB)
  • Minutes from the previous meeting were distributed and reviewed.  Question asked about the notation regarding lighting LS2 and why it wasn’t approved.  Explained that County was worried overuse would destroy the field.
  • Motion to approve minutes by Ryan Mudd (RM), seconded by Mike Moreland (MM).
  • Review of Fall Season by (MM)
    • Fields were changed around and all was okay.
    • Matula worked out well for the U6 teams.
    • New equipment was issued to most coaches.
    • Gear return at end of season was successful.  Coaches who returned gear were given a $25 gift card to Dicks.  This allowed LPYSA to take stock of what needed replacing.
    • Major issue was running up of scores.
  • Preview of Spring Season by (RM)
    • LPYSA will be sprigging fields 1,2 & 3 with dormant Bermuda in January.  Fields will resemble current status for the Spring season.  Winter grasses will be killed off in June allowing Bermuda to thrive in the Summer and be ready for the Fall season.
    • Registration will open on-line on January 1st.  Emails will go out to all who played in Fall through the Demosphere site.
    • Final Registration numbers for Fall were:  541 Rec players and 53 Rec Plus Players.
    • Still determining if Coaches will continue to pay for their own child for the Spring Season.  Goal is to try and identify returning coaches early to prevent having to scurry around for them as draft nears.
    • Coaches will be forced to complete the NYSCA coaching module in the Spring.  This is through the County and is a requirement.  County pays for the 1st time, then $20 each year afterwards.  Will not be allowed to Coach until it is taken by all coaches.
    • Looking to host an “E” license course again this Spring.
  • Select/Rec Plus report by Guy Milano
    • Select teams attended numerous tournaments and had successful seasons in BBSL.
    • With new BBSL rules, travel distances were not as far.  Games appeared to be a bit more local.
    • Paul Simpson will be a new U15 girls Travel team in Spring.
    • Rec Plus had a successful season with 4 teams.  No complaints by any.  Like Rec Plus as a springboard to going to travel.
    • Rec Plus numbers increased league wide.
    • Rec Plus fee of $100 per player will remain the same for the Spring season.
    • A U12 girls team being added coached by Luke Newcomb, and a U8 Boys team being added coached by Mike Deeds.  U14 Girls team not returning for the Spring.
    • LPYSA would like to possibly host a tournament session this Spring.
    • Will be hosting a Rec Plus meeting during the Spring Season for interested coaches for the following Fall.
    • LPYSA hopes to install a process to select good coaches for Rec Plus.  Our numbers are lower than those in SM and Calvert, so hard to have duplicate teams in each division.  Do not want to diminish Rec program to feed Rec Plus.
    • Tryouts for the new Spring teams will be in February.
  • Elections:  No nominations were offered for any positions.  Quorum not present to hold elections anyway.
  • Ed Redman suggested LPYSA post minutes on our website.  May be a good tool to note the great things happening in our club.
  • Nathan Kumbar thanked Board for help and improvements over the past season.
  • Suggestion made to host a Referee class in the next year.
  • Also, question was made to see if we could host a “D” license course in the next year or so.
  • Meeting was called by KB at 8:15.
